IU Football: Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness
Organization: Indiana University Football Team
Topic: Sudden Cardiac Arrest awareness and the importance of taking action
Impact: AED was donated to the Bloomington IN youth football team on behalf of IU Football
Jeff Utzinger and Bill Schlies through Be Like Bill had the opportunity to share their story with the Indiana University Football team!
Coach Tom Allen invited Jeff and Bill to Bloomington to both spread education and awareness around Sudden Cardiac Arrest and stress the importance of taking action in the event of an emergency. Aligning with Coach Allen’s phrase for the program - LEO (Love Each Other), Bill stressed how we’ve become a society fearful of jumping in to help other people and how a simple, yet courageous act could save a life.
Bryan Neale joined Jeff and Bill to share his related and amazing story. Bryan Neale is an NFL referee and was working the Bengals-Bills Monday Night game when Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field with Sudden Cardiac Arrest. The players and coaches were engaged in Bryan’s account of that event realizing that Sudden Cardiac Arrest can happen to anyone, regardless of physical condition.
The presentation concluded with the commitment from Be like Bill of donating an AED to the Monroe County (Bloomington), IN youth football team - on behalf of IU Football!
Go Hoosiers!!!!
